It is moved that: The following questions be submitted to the applicants for the Executive Officer positions and their responses be included in the voter’s guide.

1.       Why are you running for this position?

2.       What can you contribute to the Membership in this position?

3.       What do you perceive to be SPEEA’s primary challenges and what are your proposed solutions?

4.       Problem solving, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills are critical for the position. Please give personal examples where you have demonstrated them.

NW13-025 Support of UFCW Locals 21 & 367, Teamsters Local 38 in Negotiations With Assorted Grocery Chains and Independent Stores.

 

It is moved that: The NW SPEEA Council supports UFCW local 21 and associated unions in their struggle in negotiations with the union grocery stores. The NW Council requests the Executive Board provide Staff with direction to take steps in informing our members about this issue via our publications and information networks and urge our members to shop at union grocery stores and support the union workers during negotiations and if they go out on strike. It is further moved that: The Northwest Council supports giving up to $5000.00 out of the annually budgeted labor support fund, should a strike happen and support is needed by UFCW locals 21, 367 or Teamsters Local 38.

NW13-024 Support of SPFPA Local 5 facing outsourcing of Boeing guards to non-union contracted Guards.

It is moved that: The NW SPEEA Council supports SPFPA Local 5. The NW Council requests the Executive Board provide staff with direction to take steps in  informing our members about the outsourcing of Boeing union guards via our publications and information networks and urge our members to thank the union guards that are members of SPFPA Local 5. It is further moved that: The Northwest Council supports SPFPA in future contract negotiations that they will have with Boeing in 2017.

It is moved that: The NW SPEEA Council supports IAM Local 79, District 160 by requesting the SPEEA Executive Board giving $2,000 out of the annually budgeted labor support fund to help them in their strike.

MW13-017 Motion to Support the Student Right to Know Before You Go Act.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council support the Student Right to Know Before You Go Act and related measures to improve available education and workforce data for the benefit of students, families and workers. Furthermore, the SPEEA Council supports the SPEEA L&PA Committee and SPEEA staff in efforts to advocate on behalf of such measures.

MW13-016 Motion to Protect the National Labor Relations Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.

It is moved that: The SPEEA Council support the L&PA Committee and SPEEA Legislative staff in efforts to counter legislation, amendments or agency rulemaking that would undermine or erode worker protections under the National Labor Relations Act or the Fair Labor Standards Act and to support measures that protect or strengthen established workplace rights via these two Acts.

 

And, be it further moved, that the SPEEA Council will also encourage members to support legislative efforts to protect established workplace rights via these two Acts.

It is moved that: The NW Council approves contributing $3,750 to the Economic Opportunity Institute consisting of a $2,500 contribution and $1,250 towards a table at the annual meeting for members, guests and staff.
